Introduction
At Ivy Reign Academy, we are committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, and secure environment for all students, staff, visitors, and volunteers.
We believe that safety and wellbeing are fundamental to effective learning and development, and we take every reasonable step to prevent accidents, injuries, and ill health.
This policy outlines our commitment to meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all associated legislation.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to:

Ensure all staff understand their roles in maintaining health and safety.

Prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health.

Provide safe equipment, facilities, and working practices.
Scope
This policy applies to:

All activities and locations associated with Ivy Reign Academy, including training rooms, classrooms, salons, and community spaces.
Responsibilities
Director (Charlotte Graves):

Overall responsibility for the implementation and review of this policy.

Ensures staff are competent to carry out their duties safely.

Provides adequate training, information, and supervision.
Staff and Volunteers:

Take reasonable care for their own health and safety.
-
Report hazards, near misses, or unsafe conditions immediately.

Use equipment and materials correctly and safely.
-
Follow risk assessment controls and safety procedures.
Students:
-
Are expected to act responsibly, respect safety instructions, and inform staff of hazards or accidents immediately.
Procedures

Risk Assessments: Conducted regularly for all activities and reviewed annually or when changes occur.

First Aid: Adequate first aid arrangements and trained first aiders are in place during all academy sessions.

Accident Reporting: All incidents, injuries, and near misses are recorded in the Accident Log and reviewed to prevent recurrence.

Fire Safety: Fire exits, alarms, and extinguishers are clearly marked and checked routinely. Staff receive fire evacuation training annually.

COSHH: All hazardous substances (e.g., salon products) are safely stored and used according to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.

Electrical Safety: Equipment is checked regularly, and damaged items are removed from use immediately.
Health & Welfare

The academy provides clean, well-ventilated, and comfortable spaces.

Drinking water and hygiene facilities are available for all.

Reasonable adjustments are made for staff or students with additional needs.

Stress, fatigue, and wellbeing are treated as genuine health considerations, and support is available.
Training

All staff receive induction training covering health and safety policies and procedures.

Additional role-specific training is provided where required (e.g., COSHH, manual handling, first aid).

Records of training are maintained by management.
Monitoring & Review
The Director will review this policy annually, taking into account:

Incident reports and accident statistics

Staff and student feedback

Changes in legislation or practice
Any updates will be communicated to all staff and displayed within the academy.
