Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

Introduction

Ivy Reign Academy is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for every learner.
We recognise our moral and legal duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people who engage with our academy, programmes, or community activities.

Our policies are designed to uphold the highest standards of care, professionalism, and equality.
We believe every young person deserves to thrive in a nurturing, creative, and community-focused space where education builds confidence, skill, and self-worth.

Purpose

This policy sets out how Ivy Reign Academy will:

  • Protect children and young people from harm.

  • Ensure concerns are handled quickly, sensitively, and effectively.

  • Create a culture of vigilance and openness.

  • Work in partnership with parents, carers, schools, and external agencies.

Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All staff, contractors, volunteers, and students within Ivy Reign Academy.

  • Any partner organisations or individuals engaged in activities on behalf of the company.

It covers all activities on and off site, including training, enrichment programmes, after-school clubs, and community projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Charlotte Graves
Deputy DSL: Peterborough Safeguarding Children Partnership Hub

All staff and volunteers have a responsibility to:

  • Recognise signs of abuse or neglect.

  • Record and report concerns to the DSL without delay.

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

  • Undertake annual safeguarding training.

The DSL is responsible for:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns.

  • Maintaining accurate, secure records.

  • Liaising with statutory agencies and schools.

  • Ensuring policies and procedures remain current and compliant.

Procedures

If a member of staff or volunteer has a safeguarding concern:

  1. Listen carefully to the child or young person; do not promise confidentiality.

  2. Record details factually using the child’s own words.

  3. Report immediately to the DSL (Charlotte Graves).

  4. DSL Response:

    • Assess the level of risk.

    • Consult the Peterborough Hub or Cambridgeshire MASH as appropriate.

    • Record all actions and outcomes.

Training & Awareness

  • All staff receive induction training on safeguarding and child protection.

  • Annual updates ensure understanding of current legislation and local procedures.

  • Additional training is provided where roles involve direct work with young people.

Confidentiality & Record Keeping

  • Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis.

  • Records are kept securely and in compliance with data-protection legislation.

  • Records are retained according to statutory requirements.

Monitoring & Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are significant changes in legislation or practice.
Feedback from staff, students, parents, and partner schools will inform each update.
